WHITEWATER RAFTING

Can my kids go rafting without me? Do I have to be in a raft with my kids?

All unaccompanied participants must be ages 16 or older. Ages 14 and under must have an onsite chaperone.

Although chaperones are not required to raft, all chaperones must remain onsite for the duration of the raft trip. Chaperones are responsible for ensuring all participants are at the Trip Talk building at the appropriate time.

IN ADDITION: Montgomery Whitewater politely requests that all participants and chaperones sit through a pre-trip safety talk.

Can anyone whitewater raft? Do I need to know how to swim to participate?

Like any natural environment, whitewater rafting is an inherently dangerous activity requiring active participation. We offer several rafting options, with eight years old being the youngest age permitted for the Beginner Rafting experience.

The ability to swim is not required to whitewater raft but is highly recommended. You’ll wear a life vest and helmet at all times while on the whitewater, and comfort floating in moving current is a plus. Although there is no maximum weight limit for whitewater rafting, all guests must be able to fit in a life vest which allows for a 55” limit chest size.

Is the whitewater course filled with water from the Alabama River?

No, the whitewater course is filled with city water and has a state-of-the-art filtration and treatment system designed to treat all 12 million gallons of water.

Bringing your own boat?

No personal rafts are allowed on the whitewater channels and all rafting trips are led by a Montgomery Whitewater guide.

As long as they are whitewater-specific crafts, personal duckies, shredders, and personal whitewater kayaks are all permitted. There is also a demo kayaking fleet to choose from if you have your own gear and skill level to paddle class II-IV whitewater. For more information, contact Paul.

PFDs must be rated Type 3 by the Coast Guard. Helmets must be whitewater specific.
