Build Your Own Boat Competition

The race will be in Time Trial format starting in the upper pond and ending at the bottom of the competition channel. The BYOB race will be a scored event. Scoring based on 3 factors: 

OVERALL
Scored on style and distance traveled (must complete entire channel to score)

STYLE
Boats will be ranked on creativity, design, and theme

FAN’S CHOICE
Based off crowd applause and reaction  

The High School Division and any other special divisions will be judged on distance traveled with style points as the tie breaker.

RULES & REGULATIONS

Team Capacity 1-4 people (MW will provide PFD and helmet for participants)

Age Requirement 16+ years old (or 9th grade with a teacher for high school class entries)

Max Dimensions 10’ wide X 10’ long X 5’ tall

Boat Weight Limit 150lbs

All boat materials must float

Must be human-powered

Rope sections can be no longer than 18” and must be tied securely against the structure

No enclosures or compartments are permitted; participants must be able to exit the craft easily and quickly

PROHIBITED MATERIALS

wood over ¼” thick, metal objects (including fasteners), PVC, fiberglass/carbon fiber, acrylic, plexiglass, lexan, sharp objects, straps or devices that hold participants to the craft, manufactured craft designed for whitewater (tubes, kayaks, SUPs, rafts, boards, etc.)

pool noodles, cardboard, latex primer, silicone sealant, spray foam, duck tape, plastic storage bins, water cooler bottles, tarps
